Treating and preventing Summer Insect Bites.
Following are few precautionary tips for you to treat and prevent insect bites this summer.
Mosquitoes
With summers arrive mosquitoes. If a mosquito bites an animal that is infected with a virus and then it bites you, you can easily get that virus. Therefore, you must make sure that stay indoors during sunrise and sunset because this is the time when mosquitoes are active. In case, you need to outside, then cover your skin to avoid mosquito bites. Keep your children covered up as well.
If you get bitten by a mosquito, apply anti-itching cream over it and avoid scratching it. However, if you develop flu-like symptoms within a few days of being bitten or your condition worsens, immediately seek medical attention.
Bees and Wasps
Wasps and bees, too, are the most hated insects that come along with summer. A bee’s sting is very painful therefore it is best to avoid it. Avoid flowering plants and using perfumes when you go to a garden. Wear light colors so that you do not attract them. Stay away from garbage bins where wasps may gather.
In case you get stung by a bee, remove the stinger through your fingernail immediately. Using tweezers may be painful and these may squeeze the venom from the stinger into your wound. Wash that area thoroughly and if you still feel the pain, contact your doctor. When stung by a bee, your lips may swell and you may find it harder to breathe. In such a case, go straight to emergency.
Black Flies
The bites of black flies are also very painful as they leave itchy red marks. You must be careful during morning, late afternoon, and early evening, during which these flies like to attack. They even come out during storms. So, wear long sleeves and cover yourselves and avoid wearing darker colors to attract them.
In case you get bitten, wash that area and apply the correct anti itch product after consultation from your doctor. If the bite does not seem to heal, seek further medical treatment.
Ticks
If you have experienced a tick bite, you know that they hold on and stick to your skin and bury their head inside and suck all the blood. No wonder, they are like vampires. Tick bites can cause Lyme disease. Therefore, you must cover yourself properly wearing long sleeved shirts and long pants if you walk around grassy areas frequently. Provide your skin with extra protection. If you have pets, check their bodies every now and then for ticks.
In case you find a tick over your skin, pull it out with tweezers. Then, go see your doctor immediately and take the tick along. The doctor may prescribe you antibiotics as a precautionary measure.
